Neighborhood Trouble in Southern California14 Aug
Los Angeles-based KCET is planning to dropping Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood from their Monday through Friday schedule.
If you live in the KCET viewing area, please contact them today and consider letting them know how you feel about this unfortunate decision. Here’s the station’s reply to a viewer inquiry (Thank you, Katy!) which includes a phone number you can call:
Thank you for inquiring about Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, one of the many quality children’s programs KCET is proud to present. KCET remains committed to delivering the highest quality programming choices and enthusiastically supports PBS KIDS®, an educational, interactive hosted two-hour morning television block, supported by learning games and activities at pbskids.org.
Please know, PBS KIDS is premiering two new series this fall: Martha Speaks, based on the popular children’s books, and Sid the Science Kid, produced by The Jim Henson Company and KCET, which introduces wonderful new animated characters as they look for answers to everyday questions. In order to accommodate the new programs, KCET will revise its current children’s schedule, which will alter the broadcast of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.
We understand the challenges presented to parents and children when their beloved schedule changes. It is our goal to create a smooth transition by continuing to broadcast Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood as part of KCET’s weekend morning schedule each Saturday and Sunday at 9:00 a.m. beginning on September 7.
Please know that we value your opinions. Feedback from our members and viewers plays an important role in our decision-making process, as we continually seek to build a better public television.
If you have additional questions or comments, please feel free to contact our Viewer Services Department at (323) 953-5238, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.
Thank you for taking time to share your concerns and for caring about what we broadcast.

We need Mister Rogers.
Please don’t silence him.
Please don’t drop Mr. Rogers! My daughter and I enjoy watching his program very much before her naptime. Please keep Mr. Rogers on during the week!
Mr. Rogers is one of the best teachers I have had in my life (and in my family & friends lives too.) Please keep “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood” on the air…maybe on one of your digital stations at least?
Please leave Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood on the air. He taught us and will teach our children to love, show compassion, get along with others, share and I could continue to list many more things. Who cares if they are re-runs and that there aren’t anymore new episodes. There are plenty of other shows on many channels that show re-runs. So why is this any different? This is an excellent show and should remain on the television.
Please, our families need Mr. Rogers. Where can our children find a program about values and morals, about a person who relates to them and their feelings. Mr. Rogers taught me to be a better mom. Please don’t take him away.
My sons (6 and 4) and I really missed Mr. Rogers this week. I understand that new shows can teach too, but he has such a wonderful way of reaching young children - he treats them with respect and honor, and demonstrates innumerable qualities that we all want our children to emulate. PLEASE reconsider this change. Our days just weren’t the same this week, and I (who grew up with him too) feel the loss. It is as if he has died once again for me.
PS - the weekend format is not the same, since the shows were designed in thematic, weekly, blocks.
I have written to three separate email addresses regarding this. I live in the KCET broadcasting range and really hope we can keep this wonderful show on the air.
For anyone else in the southern CA area, here is the KCET email to make your voices heard. The more people who write in upset about this, the better!

My son and I watch Mr. Rogers on a daily basis. Please return to broadcasting Monday - Friday
I thought it was a little odd that Mr. Rogers was not on at 11:30 a.m. I did not realize that it had been “re-arranged” I am so very saddened by this and my kids…well, they are heartbroken! I have already sent an email to viewservices@kcet.org and I hope that we will be able to send enough requests that they reconsider. How extremely saddening that such a quality show would be cut off. We just feel like our best friend died (again).
Pleeeze keep Mr. Rogers Neighborhood on the air! It’s my granddaughter’s favorite show. She and her little brother’s favorite toy last Christmas was Mr. Roger’s trolly, which we were lucky enough to have purchased and kept for them. In fact, she isn’t allowed to watch much TV. Not Sesame Street, for certain - too hyper. Other programs do teach, but they don’t all teach the essentials in a way that comforts and interacts with children. Too much commercialism and hype going on in the lives of young children. No shows that speak so clearly to values and relationships. My daughter recently said to me, “When I have trouble parenting, I ask myself, ‘what would Mr. Rogers do’.”
